The Under 13s took 3rd place at the ECB National Finals Day on Tuesday beating Taunton St Andrews in the play-off after they narrowly lost to Eastcote from Middlesex in the Semi-Final.
After losing the toss WBCC were asked to field by Eastcote. As the nerves settled Sam Joy took a couple of quick wickets, both caught by Travis Holland at cover to leave the London and South East champions on 35-2. No.3 & 4 steadied the ship however before a few end of innings wickets saw Eastcote reach 118-5 off their 20 overs.
The WBCC didn't get off to the best of starts with Rory Lamb, Faizan Minhas and Travis Holland all falling for 1 run each, while Lewis Graham (31*) kept things ticking along. At 69-6 the U13s looked cooked but Sam Joy's (25*) hitting coupled with some good running and nervous fielding kept the boys in it until the last over. It was too much to ask however and the final total of 104 was 14 runs shy. Ultimately extras and the odd misjudement left the U13s to rue what could have been.
The 3rd place play-off took place against Taunton St Andrew who had also had a side in the previous days U15s finals day.
This time the bowlers did their job restricting the Somerset side to 82-7. In reply Lewis (30*) retired again before Travis (12*) and Faizan (14*) completed a comprehensive win for the loss of only Rory (18*) in 13 overs.
Third place in the whole of the country! What an achievement for these boys.
Congratulation to coach Alex Lamb, but most of all congratulations to the Under 13s boys.
We are all extremely proud of what you have achieved this season and you should be too!!
