After a couple of nervous weeks, Alastair Pettit's 1st team have been promoted to SNCL Division A for the first time since 2012.
After winning the toss, relegation threatened Kirkby Portland were asked to bat first and their innings got off to the worst possible start when 16yo left armer Ben Weaver took two wickets in the first over, including dangerman Robert Shead for a golden duck first ball of the innings.
Kirkby struggled along to 48-3 with Weaver taking 3-19 in 7 overs, before skipper Pettit brought himself into the attack.
As is often the case the robot ripped through the visitors taking 4 wickets in 4 balls, finishing with 7-13 of 4.2 overs. Kirkby were decimated for 61 runs.
In reply star batsman Rhys Hayes followed Shead in getting out to the first ball of the innings as WBCC stumbled to 15-2 then 34-3 but Alex Sheriston finished the game in rapid fashion with 25 off 17 balls, winning the game, 20 points and promotion to Division A.
In Division E the 2nd XI batted first against East Leake and reached 168 all out with Kwesi Spencer top scoring with 60 runs.
In reply the home team stumbled along before some late order hitting saw them required 23 to win off the last over. That became 4 off the last ball, but they could only manage a 2 which handed the 2nd XI the Division E title!
What a season!
