A record-breaking weekend for the 1st team on Saturday rounded off a wet half-term week, but I hope everyone had a good week of no school or exams.
This week is an amazingly busy week down at the club, so may I ask for your support as much as you can. The following things are all happening!
The Thornbridge Brewery tap takeover starts on Thursday and runs through to Sunday afternoon.
We have Malaysian Street Food as our food van on Friday evening.
Our President’s Fun Day is on Sunday, starting at 12 noon. (We need to finish the Thornbridge beer that day…)
The weather forecast isn’t perfect for later in the week, but the food van is coming regardless, as we have had to commit to it, so if junior training has to be cancelled, please come and support the tap takeover and have some lovely Malaysian food!
President’s Fun Day is also taking shape (see below), with loads of activities, matches, a BBQ, and the raffle!
We do hope the rain holds off and we can raise loads of money for Maggie’s.
Cheers
Jon

A record-breaking weekend!! (and £200 for Maggie’s!)
Only the one win this Saturday, but what a win it was! The 1st team travelled the short distance to Radcliffe and put in an utterly dominating performance, racking up 428-5 in their 50 overs. Suraj Rajesh scored his maiden hundred for the club (145 from 119 balls) and Ally Pettit scored his 2nd hundred of the season (112) in a record opening stand of 278. Not only is this a club record partnership, but also a Nottinghamshire Premier League record.
When Suraj was out, Travis Holland then decided to have some fun and managed to bludgeon an amazing 91 from only 29 balls, including 9 sixes and 6 fours. But the guys didn’t then sit back and allow Radcliffe to get some batting practice – they were led by 6 wickets for Joe Holding (6-41) in bowling Radcliffe out for 97, so winning by a massive 331 runs.
The other £50 donation to Maggie’s came in the 5th team game against Wymeswold, where Jon Ebsworth took 5-13 from 5 overs in a dramatic 1-wicket loss. Captain Marcus Woolley reports: “We were faced with a very green and moist wicket that dried out a bit and it was best batting by far in the 2nd innings. Sam Brewington and I were the only ones to really get comfortable and Sam batted incredibly well given the conditions to nearly carry his bat.
“In the 2nd innings, we set really aggressive fields but they still managed to get to 50 without loss before wickets started tumbling. Jon bowled really well, but Dave Snowden’s caught and bowled was something special and his run out for the 9th wicket was aiming at little more than one stump from halfway to the boundary. To add to the drama, the final ball of the game was a top edge behind square to Nick Astill at the 45 that he was only a few meters away from when they scampered back for 2!
“I just want to stress how good the energy was, particularly with the juniors. Even at 50-0 it felt like we had a chance. There was barely a misfield all game and great support from everyone.”
The 4s and 3s also lost very close games, with Kimberley 3s getting to the 4s’ target of 139 with 7 wickets down and the Midlands 2s scraping home when chasing 118 with 8 wickets down, despite Greg Woolrich’s astonishing figures of 10-5-9-4.
The 2nd team also lost, this time in not such a tight game, when 207-8 was chased down by Fiskerton & Thurgarton with almost 8 overs to spare.
On Sunday the 6th team put in a great performance to beat Collingham by 9 wickets, chasing down 128 with 3 overs to spare, with Charlie Robson continuing his great run of form with 65*.
Thanks to 100s from Suraj Rajesh and Alastair Pettit, Joe Holding’s 6-fer and Jonathan Ebsworth’s 5-fer, we added another £200 in one day onto the total we’ll donate to Maggie’s, our charity of the year. That means we’ve committed £450 to Maggie’s already, due to excellent batting and bowling performances!
Junior Cricket
U12s v Clifton 1st June
The team maintained its 100% record for the season with four wins from four with a convincing victory against Clifton Village. Bowling first with early wickets from Fraser (1/6) and Shriyan (1/5) followed up by Alfred (3/2) taking a catch off his own bowling to complete a hattrick and three wickets from Charlie (3/3) saw the opposition all out for 46. The runs were knocked off in 8.4 overs with Shriyan top scoring with 14, with William (8*) and Fraser (7*) bringing the team home, finishing with 47/4.
Cricket, prizes & charity: don’t miss President’s Fun Day!
This coming Sunday (8th June) is President’s Fun Day where the club will be open to all from 12 noon. Two cricket matches are planned during the afternoon with a range of traditional games in the bar area, inflatable penalty shootout and giant darts outside, and the bowling machine challenge in the nets.
The first match is the adult and junior pairs game from 12:30 – all ages and abilities welcome, sign up by emailing Luke Essex. This is followed at 14:30 by the marquee match, the annual T20 between the 200 Degrees XI and the combined sponsors’ All-Stars. The Ashes has nothing on this rivalry!
Talking of ashes, there will be a BBQ on throughout the afternoon, courtesy of our shirt sponsor 200 Degrees. At the end of the T20, the raffle will be drawn with a signed Mary Earps shirt, England cricket kit, a family ticket to Trent Bridge, and a signed Notts CC bat and shirt among the prizes up for grabs – tickets are on sale at the clubhouse.
The event is in support of our chosen charity for this season, Maggie’s, a free-to-all cancer support service.
Please show your support by coming on down and enjoying the afternoon!
Thornbridge Tap Takeover 5th – 8th June
Our friends at Thornbridge Brewery will be taking over from the 5th June to 8th June with six Thornbridge ales and three guest dark ales.
Bar and beers will be on whatever the weather!

Do you have some time to support the club?
There are several ways you can get involved with West Bridgfordians, whether you fancy being on the field in a white coat, keeping score, just lending a hand for a match or two or managing our money.
Get in touch with Dom Evans if you’d like to umpire for our 3rd XI, Justine Robinson if you’d like to score, Jon Sheard if you want to help us with our accounts and John Spragg if you’d like to volunteer to help our 6th team.
Are games and training on?
Yes! Unless we tell you otherwise. If we have to cancel either training or games, we will communicate (via email and socials) so if you don’t hear from us, please turn up for training or games as usual.
