Newsletter 7th May 2025
View from the Chair
I hope everyone has had an enjoyable bank holiday weekend?! I had a slightly unexpected 6 over spell on Saturday, so the body took a bit to get going on Sunday, but it got there in the end!
The season is now well and truly underway now and the games are coming thick and fast.
Although we didn’t get as many wins under our belts this week as we all would have liked we got a couple and our first tie of the season as well!
This week there are 9 junior games and a full round of open age games at the weekend, with all 6 teams playing.
As per the article below, please put the 8th June into your diaries – there is a lot of work going on at the moment to make our President’s Fun Day a massive success.
Have a good week everyone and good luck to all teams that are playing.

Results
Junior Cricket
In junior cricket last week, there were wins for the girls incrediball team against Attenborough and the Under 12B team against Wollaton. Looking at the results from last week, we appear to have come up against several very strong sides, with the Attenborough U14s managing to rack up 201-2 in 20 overs and Cavs U13s knocking off 82 in only 11 overs – our time will come, I have no doubt.
Women’s Cricket
Sunday saw 2 wins out of 2 for the softball side against Gedling Colliery and Notts & Arnold, with Archant Kamat scoring an impressive 43 from 22 balls in the N&A game. The development team came up short against Wollaton – they did outscore them, but lost more wickets.
Open Age Cricket
The Open Age sides on Saturday afternoon also struggled this week. Even the incentive of a 30-minute free bar if all sides won didn’t produce the desired results, with only an exciting tie for the 3s against Bramcote 1st XI bringing home any positive news.
However, there were some great individual performances, with the 1st team captain, Ben Savage, getting 6 wickets in a low scoring encounter against Carrington and Cavaliers. John Croasdale got 83 as the 2s came up short against Madni. Toby Jackson also got 83 to help force the tie for the 3s. Sam Fitzgerald top scored with 41 for the 4s against a Gotham 2s side significantly strengthened by the fact their 1s didn’t have a game and finally the first Saturday afternoon 5th XI game (team pictured below) and therefore club Saturday debuts for Ivan Fitzgerald-White, Salmon Basha, Sam Campbell and Ben Carswell. Welcome to Saturday afternoon cricket to all of you!

WBCC President’s Fun Day on 8th June
SAVE THE DATE! Sunday 8th June will see the inaugural WBCC President’s Fun Day. This is a slightly tweaked version of what used to be called our Sponsor’s Day. However, following feedback that people didn’t know what that was, we have changed the name!
The day will include the 200 Degrees vs Sponsors Allstars T20, Parent and child matches, barbecue, charity raffle, and assorted attractions, entertainment and games.
All are welcome, the bar will be open (it’s also the last day of the Thornbridge Brewery Tap Takeover), and more details will follow in the next couple of weeks.
All money raised from the day will be donated to our Charity of the Year, Maggie’s.
3rd XI umpire needed
We’re still looking for umpires for the season for our 3rd XI.
This is due to the league they are playing in (SNCL Division E) having an umpire bonus point system in place. Therefore, for every game where we have an umpire we will gain an additional point which could give us an extra 18 points throughout the season.
For each game umpired, you will receive £40, as well as a free tea if the game is at home.
If you are interested in umpiring at some point this season, even if it’s just for 1 game, please get in touch with our 3rd team captain Dom Evans via email or on 07837 966799.
Wanted: occasional Saturday scorers
If you’re happy to score but don’t want the commitment of scoring every Saturday, could you be one of our occasional scorers?
We have scorers for the Saturday teams but there are times when they have other things to do with their Saturdays and we’d like to be able to call on people to score. In fact, we have opportunities to score this Saturday!
For each game scored, you’d receive £30 and a free tea if the game is at home. Please get in touch if you’d like to join the group of occasional scorers.
Donate your pre-loved cricket gear on Friday
We are still taking in donations for the pre-loved clothing shop which we hope to open for selling on Friday 9th May.
In particular we are looking for donations of outgrown cricket clothing and bats, as these have specifically been asked for.
So please bring your donations down to the club on a Friday evening and someone will be there to take them. All proceeds will go to Maggie’s, our Charity of the Year.
Help us to name the newsletter
Do you have a knack for witty wordplay? A talent for titles that truly captures the essence of cricket? Then this is your moment to shine!
Our new newsletter needs a catchy and memorable name! We want a name that reflects the spirit of West Bridgfordians, the thrill of the game, and the camaraderie we share.
The brilliant mind behind the winning name won’t just earn bragging rights (though those are certainly valuable!) but we’ll also give the winner any item of clothing they choose from the WBCC shop up to a value of £40.
Simply submit your suggestions by 14 May. You can submit as many entries as you like, so let your creativity flow! We’ll be looking for names that are original, engaging, and relevant to the club.
Let’s give our newsletter a name that’s as memorable as a six over the boundary!
